| Some more common household bugs: |
- Ants
Ants have been living on the Earth for more than 100 million years and can be found almost anywhere on the planet. It is estimated that there are about 20,000 different species of ants. For this reason ants have been called Earth's most successful species.
- Roaches
Roaches all go through the same life cycle and develop by gradual metamorphosis. They pass through three stages: egg, nymph and then to adult. Eggs are laid in batches, with each egg case holding many individual roaches. The number in each egg case depends on the species, but can have as many as 52 individuals in each egg case. And each one becomes a reproducing adult in as little as nine weeks, again depending on the species.
- Scorpions
Scorpion stings can be very painful and even deadly, so prevention is always essential. You should be aware of where scorpions hide. They are nocturnal creatures so during the day they hide in burrows or under stones and rocks and they can also be found hiding in dark quiet places indoors. Since scorpions have poor eye sight, they rely on vibrations to locate their pray.
If your place may have scorpions, wearing hard shoes will help and you shouldn't ever go bare foot if you are in any doubt.
- Crickets
While crickets are common outdoors, they may accidently enter homes. They enter buildings through open doors and windows, cracks around poorly fitted windows, in foundations, in siding, and spaces under doors, so it may be difficult to find the exact point of entry.
